Our Mission
At Community School of West Seattle (CSWS), we cultivate a joyful, inclusive learning community where children, families, and educators grow together. Through play, inquiry, and meaningful relationships, we honor each child’s natural curiosity, creativity, and unique voice.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we believe children are capable, competent learners who thrive when given opportunities to explore, collaborate, and connect with the world around them. Together, we nurture confidence, empathy, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.
Our Values
At CSWS, we believe in:
Children as capable learners — We trust children to lead their learning through curiosity, creativity, and exploration.
Learning through play — Play is the foundation for discovery, problem-solving, and joyful learning.
Belonging and inclusion — Every child, family, and educator deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and valued.
Relationships first — Strong partnerships with families and meaningful connections within our community are at the heart of everything we do.
Nature and exploration — We encourage wonder through outdoor learning, hands-on experiences, and meaningful connections with the natural world.
Lifelong learning — We embrace reflection, collaboration, and continuous growth as children and educators learn alongside one another.
Community responsibility — Together, we foster empathy, respect, and stewardship for each other and our shared environment.
Our Vision
We envision a community where every child is known, valued, and empowered to become a compassionate, curious, and confident learner. Through strong relationships, meaningful experiences, and a deep sense of belonging, we inspire children to positively contribute to their communities and the world around them.
